Vienna Buses
While the metro and tram systems are often the easiest and quickest way to get around Vienna during the day, buses are the only alternative to taxis at night time.
The bus is another public transport option, though we recommend taking the metro or tram before the bus.
If you find yourself in need of catching the bus, keep in mind it's more expensive to purchase the ticket from the conductor than before getting on the bus itself.
Night buses
If you're planning a night out in Vienna, the night bus could be the best way to travel home. They operate between 12:30 am and 5 am and run every 30 minutes. There are 26 night bus lines, and the route numbers begin with the letter 'N'.
Tickets for travel on night buses are the same price as their daytime public transport equivalents, and you can buy the ticket on the bus - although, like the rest of Vienna's transport tickets, it's cheaper to buy in advance.
